WHITEWATER KAYAKING

This class is for beginner and intermediate paddlers wishing to develop and refine skills for whitewater kayaking in Class l and ll river sections. This course is not for recreational or inflatable kayaks.

CLINIC COST:  $25 per person

      

 

  • Expectations, logistics

  • Paddling environment: wind, waves, weather, water

  • Personal preparation

  • Getting on and off the water

  • River reading

  • River running strategies, organization, risk management

  • Equipment

  • Safety and rescue

  • Maneuvers and strokes: sweeps, draws,braces, forward/back stroke, duffek

  • Ferries, eddy turns, peel-outs, surfing

  • Ability to perform all "Essential Eligibility Criteria" listed HERE

  • SCKC membership

  • Signed liability waiver

  • Age 12 or older

  • Whitewater kayak (no sea kayaks or recreational boats), properly sized, with float bags

  • Paddle

  • Spray skirt

  • PFD, Coast Guard approved

  • Helmet

  • Clothes for immersion. You will get wet! Wool, polypro, fleece, wetsuit or dry top/ drysuit are options

  • Change of clothes, towel

  • Sun hat, sunscreen, sunglasses

  • Notepan, pen

  • Lunch and water
